Winn-Dixie Partners with Feeding America to Help Fight Hunger

Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. announced it has joined forces with Feeding America to launch the Give a Meal program, which gives Winn-Dixie guests and team members the opportunity to help provide food to nearly 37 million Americans — including more than 14 million children — facing hunger this holiday season. Give a Meal runs through Jan. 3 and is available in all of Winn-Dixie’s 482 stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Every $1 donated during the campaign helps provide eight meals to people in need.

Lovetown USA Producers to Scout Kingsland Georgia Community

 Producers of the Oprah Winfrey Network and BBC’s new reality matchmaking television show, "Lovetown USA", notified Kingsland Mayor Kenneth Smith last weekend that Kingsland had made the next cut in the nationwide competition seeking the perfect small-town setting for love. The new show is an unscripted television documentary series that will follow a group of singles over a 30 day period. During that time, an expert team of matchmakers will guide them in their quest for love and examine how it affects the community.

Body Found On Union Carbide Road

Body Found On Union Carbide Road

 

According to a press release from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, the body of a 25-year-old man was found yesterday on Union Carbide Road.

The body of James A. Willis III, of Fort Stewart, was found at 10:30 yesterday morning on the north side of Union Carbide Road, about nine miles east of Interstate 95.

According to the release, Willis’ body was found about twenty feet off the road near the entrance to Cabin Bluff by two local men. Willis’ death is being investigated as a homicide, states the release.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) is assisting with the investigation. An investigation is underway.

US Labor Department, Microsoft Announce New Resources for Veterans

 

Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today announced a new partnership with Microsoft Corp. to provide veterans and with vouchers for no-cost training and certifications that can lead to important industry-recognized credentials.  The voucher program will serve veterans in five communities with the highest number of returning post-9/11 era veterans: Seattle, Wash.; San Diego, Calif., Houston, Texas; Northern Virginia; and Jacksonville, Fla.
