KINGSLAND, Ga. -- A man who was a person of interest in a double homicide and arson case has been killed by police officers outside his apartment complex.

David Trauger, 67, was located outside at his residence at the Willow Way Apartments after the St. Marys Police Department (SMPD) received a citizen-reported tip that he was there, according to a release from Lt. Brock of the SMPD.

Officers attempted to take him into custody, but Trauger did not comply and "raised a firearm toward the officers," according to the release. Trauger was then shot and killed.

Two skeletons, whose remains have not yet been identified, were found
Monday on a burned boat.

The boat belongs to Karen Barnes, who has been
missing and is Trauger's ex-wife. Larry Ford, who owns a boat that was located near Barnes'
boat, has also been missing.

Barnes and Ford may have been on the boat when the fire started, but the SMPD said there is no confirmation the two are deceased.

No officers were hurt in the exchange between them and Trauger, according to Brock, and the investigation is ongoing.
