Southbound Lanes to Be Closed During Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run

The southbound lanes of the Sidney Lanier Bridge on Highway 17 in Brunswick will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, for the Tenth Annual Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run. Southbound traffic will be re-routed using Hwy. 341. The northbound lanes across the bridge will remain open.

Cumberland Island National Seashore Superintendent Fred Boyles announced today that Sunday January 22, 2012 will be the last Plum Orchard Sunday.  “The ferry service has been a convenient way for visitors to see Plum Orchard, but since we started the Lands and Legacies tour, the normally high fall and winter visitation numbers have not returned,” said Park Superintendent Fred Boyles.  “While the Plum Sunday tours were always popular with visitors, the demand is not as strong as it once was.  We will continue to do the annual Plum Orchard Christmas trip in December.”

Gas Prices Remain Stable

 

Retail gasoline prices remain stable as the price of a barrel of oil neared $100 again after multiple reports were released last week that showed positive acceleration for the U.S. economy. Single-family home purchases rose in November to a seven-month high as U.S. unemployment claims fell by 4,000 to 364,000 last week, reported the U.S. Labor Department.

St. Mary’s River Bridge to Close Temporarily Tomorrow

 

At the request of Florida DOT, The Georgia Department of Transportation will temporarily close the St. Mary’s River Bridge at the Georgia/Florida State line starting 8 a.m., Tuesday, December 13 and continuing through 4 p.m., Thursday, December 15, weather permitting. The Florida DOT will be conducting routine bridge maintenance on the St. Mary’s River Bridge.

Average retail gasoline prices in Jacksonville have risen 3.0 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.24/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 0.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.28/g, according to gasoline price website JacksonvilleGasPrices.com.

Average retail gasoline prices in Jacksonville have fallen 4.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.36/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 0.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.46/g, according to gasoline price website JacksonvilleGasPrices.com.

Fuel Price Brief

 

For the first time since August 9, crude oil settled below $80 a barrel as fuel demand lags and economic concerns persist. Oil production in Libya has resumed an output quota of almost 600 million barrels a day. Libyan quotas are expected to reach one million barrels a day in the next six months. All of which drove down oil and gas prices throughout the past month. Crude oil settled Friday at $79.85 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange—$8.11 less than the week prior.
