Photo Gallery | “Just a Little Heart Attack” Short Film Premiers in Jacksonville

 

The American Heart Association- First Coast Market premiered the first-ever Go Red For Women short film “Just a Little Heart Attack,” at the Mercedes-Benz, Southern Region at the Jacksonville International Tradeport on Thursday, October 20, 2011.   The short film, inspired by the real-life stories of women who have been affected by heart disease, was written and directed by Emmy-nominated actress Elizabeth Banks. The short film provides a powerful wake-up call to Jacksonville women to understand their risk for heart disease and empower them to put their health first.

 

"The Go Red For Women movement is creating a groundswell of women's health awareness in Jacksonville. It is through strong partnerships as we have with Mercedes-Benz, southern region, that we are able bring the  lifesaving information provided in "Just a Little Heart Attack" to Jacksonville's women," said  Joyce Kramzer,  2011-2012 Go Red For Women Chair and SVP for BlueCross BlueShield of Florida. "I see that strength in the community partnerships  that are forged as  more and more women learn that heart disease is their No. 1 killer.  I believe that the  Go Red movement and the short film reminds all women that we should  stop and take time for ourselves. We need to make – and keep – an appointment to see our physician and ask him or her about our own risk factors for heart disease and stroke.”



“Just a Little Heart Attack” shares a glimpse into the seemingly normal routine of a busy mom caring for her family: preparing breakfast for her young children and loving husband (Colin Egglesfield, Something Borrowed); finishing the laundry; helping with homework; and getting an early start on her own busy work day. The morning is quickly turned on its side when mom (Banks) finds herself stumbling through her kitchen as she ignores the warning signs of a heart attack. Banks uses her comedic talent to charm the audience while, ultimately, delivering an invaluable message about the possible consequences for women who ignore their risk of heart disease. 

 

A staggering one in three American women suffers from heart disease, yet only one in five believes she is personally at risk. This disconnect can leave many women unmotivated to act and even to treat heart disease. The film can be viewed at  Facebook.com/GoRed  .
