BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Rescue workers recovered the body of a soldier who went missing off the coast of St. Simons Island.

A spokesman from Fort Stewart confirmed that Staff Sgt. Calvin Leblanc was found near the pier last night. Leblanc went missing Sunday evening while swimming with his family.

The Coast Guard suspended their search for Leblanc on Monday morning.

The Coast Guard Station in Brunswick received notification that Leblanc was missing at 5:20 p.m. Sunday from Leblanc's wife. She stated that LeBlanc got caught in a rip current off the east beach on St. Simons Island and was swept out to sea.

The Coast Guard Station in Brunswick launched a boat rescue crew and the Coast Guard Air Station Savannah launched an MH-65 Dolphin air rescue crew to the scene at 5:28 p.m.

A total of five search patterns were completed encompassing 26-miles searched in approximately 18-hours.
